I love a sweet treat, especially after lunch or before bed. I like to keep my Peanut Butter Protein Balls, Monster Cookie Energy Balls, or these Chocolate Brownie Protein Balls.

They are SO easy to make, you only need a few basic ingredients, and they are SO rich and decadent. I keep them in my fridge or freezer at all times so I always have a healthy treat on hand.

The balls are packed with protein, healthy fats, and are naturally sweetened with honey (or pure maple syrup)…but you will never know they are a healthyish treat! They really do taste like a fudgy brownie. They also have chocolate truffle vibes! If you like chocolate, you are going to LOVE these!

Ingredients

  • Almond butter– use an almond butter that is creamy and not dry. Stir well before using.
  • Honey– to sweeten the protein balls. Use pure maple syrup if you need the recipe to be vegan.
  • Vanilla extract– a splash!
  • Almond flour– almond flour is gluten-free, low in carbs, low in sugar, and higher in protein than regular flour. I store my almond flour in the freezer so it will last longer.
  • Chocolate protein powder– for a protein boost! I like Clean Simple Eat's Chocolate Brownie Batter protein powder. Use the code TWOPEAS for a discount!
  • Cocoa powder– you can use unsweetened cocoa powder or Dutch processed cocoa.
  • Sea salt– a little for the protein balls and more for sprinkling on top!
  • Chocolate chips– I like to use semi-sweet chocolate chips, but dark chocolate or milk chocolate will work too. I like Guittard or Hu chocolate.
  • Coconut oil– a little to mix in with the chocolate so it is smooth and sets up nicely.

How to Make Brownie Protein Balls

  • Line a baking sheet or tray with parchment paper, set aside.
  • In a large bowl, combine the almond butter, honey, and vanilla extract. Stir until smooth.
  • Add the almond flour, protein powder, cocoa powder, and salt. Stir until combined.
  • Roll the mixture into small balls, about 1 to 2 tablespoons per ball. Place on prepared sheet or tray. Place in the freezer for 15 minutes or in the fridge for 30 minutes.
  • Add the chocolate chips and coconut oil to a medium microwave safe bowl. Place in the microwave and heat in 30 second intervals until smooth.
  • Dip the brownie balls in melted chocolate and use a spoon to pour some chocolate over the top then lift the ball out of the chocolate and allow the excess chocolate to run off. You can shake the fork or tap it on the side of the bowl to help.
  • Return to the tray or baking sheet and sprinkle with flaky sea salt.
  • Refrigerate the balls for at least 1 hour to allow the chocolate to set before serving. Then transfer to an airtight container and store in the fridge or freezer.

How to Store

  • Storing in the Fridge: Once chocolate is set, you can store the balls in an airtight container in the refrigerator, layered with parchment or wax paper, for up to 2 weeks.
  • Storing in the Freezer: Store the balls in a freezer container for up to 3 months.
