Whenever we need an EASY treat, we often make Rice Krispie Treats. They only take 10 minutes to make and are always a crowd pleaser. We love classic Rice Krisipie Treats, peanut butter, Oreo, s'mores, Biscoff, and more!

We also LOVE these Chocolate Rice Krispie Treats. They are filled with chocolate flavor thanks to the addition of cocoa powder and chocolate chips. The treats have lots of melted marshmallows and mini marshmallows stirred in so they are extra soft and gooey! The chocolate marshmallow combo is perfection!

If you like chocolate, you will LOVE Chocolate Rice Krisipe Treats! They are fun to make and delicious to eat!

Ingredients

  • Butter– use unsalted butter!
  • Mini marshmallows– you will need a 16 ounce bag of mini marshmallows, plus 2 cups of mini marshmallows, so make sure you buy 2 bags!
  • Unsweetened cocoa powder– to add rich chocolate flavor to the treats!
  • Vanilla extract– use pure vanilla extract and not imitation.
  • Sea salt– a little kick of sea salt is so nice!
  • Crispy rice cereal– grab a box
  • Chocolate chips– I prefer semi-sweet chocolate chips, Guittard is my favorite, but milk chocolate or dark chocolate are great too! Use your favorite!
  • Melted chocolate– for drizzling, optional

How to Make Chocolate RKT

  • Grease a 9×13-inch baking pan with nonstick cooking spray. You can line with parchment paper, if desired. Set pan aside.
  • In a large pot, melt the butter over medium heat.
  • Add the 16 oz bag of marshmallows and stir until the marshmallows are completely melted. Don't overcook or the marshmallows will get hard.
  • Remove the pan from the heat and stir in the cocoa powder, vanilla, and sea salt.
  • Add the rice krispies and gently stir until the cereal is well coated with the marshmallows.
  • Stir in the chocolate chips and remaining 2 cups of mini marshmallows. The chocolate chips will melt into the treats.
  • Transfer mixture to the prepared pan. Lightly press the mixture into the pan, using a greased spatula. You can also lightly grease your hands and press the mixture into the pan.
  • Sprinkly with flaky sea salt, if desired. You can also drizzle with a little melted chocolate if you want to.
  • Let the Rice Krispie Treats cool before cutting. Cut into squares and serve.

How to Store

Store the treats in an airtight container for up to 3 days. Do not refrigerate. Refrigerating will dry them out and make them too hard and brittle.
