Grilled Shishito Peppers
Updated March 26, 2019
Grilled Shishito Peppers-these sweet and mild Japanese peppers are easy to make on the grill! Serve as an appetizer or side dish!
Josh has always loved the word bok choy. He loves to eat it, but he really loves saying it, especially when we are in the produce section. He loves embarrassing me by shouting BOK CHOY over and over until the entire produce section is staring. Well, Josh has a new favorite word to yell in the produce section, SHISHITO is his new buzz word!
We were at the store the other day and Josh asked what we needed. I told him to get shishito peppers and as soon as I said I knew I was in trouble. He got a big smile on his face and went to find them. He didn't go quietly though, he started shouting SHISHITO in the most annoying voice. I turned the cart and walked the other direction, but it was too late. Everyone knew he was with me. Oh, well I got my shishito peppers so we could make Grilled Shishito Peppers for dinner!
Have you tried shishito peppers? The little, green Japanese peppers are typically sweet and mild, but approximately one in ten have a real kick. When you get a spicy one, you will know, trust me. Don't be afraid to try them though, the guessing game is all part of the fun. Live on the wild side! And if you do get a spicy one, it really isn't that bad.
Shishito peppers are easy to prepare and make a great appetizer or side dish. We like to grill our peppers with a little bit of olive oil, sesame oil, and soy sauce.
Grill until the peppers are blistered, this will only take 5-7 minutes. Super simple!
When the peppers come off the grill, I add a little sea salt and Blue Diamond's new Sriracha Almonds. The Sriracha Almonds are the perfect finishing touch to the peppers. They add the perfect amount of kick and the crunch is nice too!
If you are looking for a simple and tasty appetizer or side dish for summer, make Grilled Shishito Peppers. They are sure to be a hit! And if you happen to get a spicy pepper, just yell SHISHITO! It is a fun word to say…just try not to yell it out while you are in the produce section. Josh is still learning:)
