We don't have church until 11 on Sundays. I am a morning person so I can't really sleep in, but I can make breakfast! During the week we are always rushing off to work, so Sunday morning is when we have our breakfast treats.

We tried Alton Brown's, Basic Waffles and loved them! I liked the mixture of whole wheat and white flour. The waffles were golden brown, crisp, and certainly what I consider “Good Eats.” We served them with fresh strawberry syrup and a dab of powdered sugar!

BASIC WAFFLES

Adapted from Alton Brown

1 c whole wheat flour 1 c all purpose flour ½ tsp baking soda 1 tsp baking powder 1 tsp salt 3 T sugar 3 eggs 2 T butter, melted 2 cups buttermilk Cooking spray for the waffle iron

Preheat waffle iron as directed.

In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, and sugar. In another bowl whisk together eggs and melted butter. Then, whisk in the buttermilk. Whisk the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients until . Let it rest 5 minutes.

Spray your waffle iron. Cook the waffles according to the directions for your waffle iron. Serve immediately, or keep warm in a 200 degree oven until ready to serve. If you plan on freezing leftovers, cool on a cooling rack before freezing. You can reheat the frozen waffles in the toaster.
